What is CPaaS?
CPaaS stands for Communications Platform as a Service. Put simply, a CPaaS is a cloud based platform that enables real-time communications, such as voice calls and instant messaging, to be integrated into developer’s own applications. CPaaS enables developers to seamlessly integrate communications features without the need to build backend infrastructure or interfaces.
Legacy solutions have not enabled this seamless integration, and traditionally real-time communications (RTC) have only been accessible from applications that were built specifically for them. Legacy solutions therefore require hardware, which is accompanied by the associated hardware restrictions – including implementation costs, software licenses, and time-consuming upgrades. For a long time, Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) and Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) were from completely separate industries.
